How to Build a Thesis Students Can Actually Defend
A practical method for helping students move from vague topic statements to clear, arguable thesis claims.
Most weak essays begin with a weak thesis. Not because students are lazy, but because they skip the argument-design step and jump straight into drafting paragraphs.
A defensible thesis has three ingredients: a clear claim, a specific scope, and a reason that can be proven with evidence. If any one of these pieces is missing, the paper drifts into summary.
